Okay, so before Marine Corps Aircraft go over to Afghanistan to drop bombs that kill children and baby seals. They go through training Drills in 29 Palms, CA and Yuma, AZ because the condition's are very similar to those in Afghanistan. That means there have to be Marines to support these training exercises, that's me. Now as you can see from some of my new pictures i.e. "Modular Office Units" and "No Covers on Flight line" I was in 29 Palms for two and a half months. Being a Marine and doing Awesome Marine things sleeping on the ground, cots, in below 40 degrees every morning. Working 12 hours a day. That's normal and perfectly fine. So I come back from that and post my cool pictures and settle back in and have a warm shower. Back to normal work la de da da......
Three Weeks later.....
++"Lcpl-Native666- Get over here!"++
___"Yes, Gunnery Sergeant"__
++"-Native666- You are going to be replacing Lcpl-Blah- in WTI. You know how to use (Deployment issuing program)"++
___"Yes, Gunnery Sergeant we had Tech Training on it in Mojave Viper"___
++"Perfect, well that means you'll be able to fit right in. We just found out today that -blah- just got added for the next deployment to Afgan." ((which leaves in 4 weeks))+++
___"Good to go, Gunnery Sergeant is there anything else"___
++"Yeah, you need to get over to WTI right now, you Started an hour ago"++
___"Good Day, Gunnery Sergeant I'll call you when I check in"((I say while running down the hall))
For almost all of you alot of that is really confusing. But this exact conversation took place, and I will gladly explain it too you. Firstly I'm yelled at to come, I snap too; that part is pretty straight forward. Now, I am told that I will be replacing another marine in WTI: WTI is the other predeployment training that takes place in Yuma, AZ where I am stationed. So less than a month after draining training I go back, that's common though not abnormal. Next my Gunnery Sergeant asks me if I have knowledge of a program specific designed for deployment, I respond yes because I just got back from training with that program. This is the kicker though, he then tells me that I will do fine going back into the predeployment training, then informs me that the Marine I am replacing is getting deployed. KICKER: That Marine, Lcpl-blah, only was only part of a third of the predeployment training and is also a Boot (new). Contrary to my ID I am no longer a boot, I am a Lcpl working a Sergeants job.
In summary: I got fucked over, as is the vicious balance of the Marine Corps. Personal time is a privilege in active duty military that is accepted. I'm more pissed that I didn't get picked to deploy and its keeping away from my regular job, and that shit is backing up while I am gone.
POSITIVE NOTE!!!!!!
I go on leave for my brothers graduation this mid-May so I'll be able to get some pictures. And continue being constructive!
::::Lcpl ---> Lance Corporal: Is a third level of rank, below Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Gunnery Sergeant. Takes approx. 1 year 3 months in to achieve.
::::WTI ---> I honestly don't know what it stands for: Is the predeployment training that takes place in Yuma, AZ. For training for Aircraft to Afghanistan.
::::Mojave Viper ---> Desert Snake: Predeployment training that takes place in the Mojave Desert of 29 Palms, CA for Afghanistan
::::Cot ---> Camping bed: This is essentially just a little X frame bed with a single piece of canvas that flattens out when the frame is opened. See "Modular Office Units"
::::Tech Training ---> CLASS: Its a fancy logistical term for Class, in which Marines teach other Marines. There is a formal style to it.
:::: Boot ---> New Guy: A Marine fresh out of boot camp, similar to the new guy at your work who doesn't know shit. Well in the Marine Corps they don't know shit, and waaay to motivated.
